Updated Ultimate Guide to Ya Ruady Stories

In 2020, after several conversations with YA readers, authors, librarians and teachers, it became clear that one of the challenges of short stories in the literature for young adults is that finding those of your favorite author can be cumbersome. Many authors maintain a list of their contribution to the anthologies of their website, but no catalog of short stories made it possible to find as much information as possible about this common history format in one place. I have collected the best guide for short stories here to make it easier to find information and to emphasize how many short stories are there for Teen and YA readers.

This YA Short Stories Guide ended with the 2019 published in 2019. Last year, I was committed to maintaining this list up to date, adding new short stories from the previous year to continue to build this guide.

I reviewed the past and present of YA Anthologies – of those published before 2025 – and collected an index to their content by the author. This aims to help you search for stories from your favorite authors, with a guide to the books in which they appear.

The task of compiling this information is not fast, easy or without restriction. This short stories index does not include short stories that are interconnected in anthology. It leaves several books, but not as much as it can be predicted. Sean David Hatchinson’s anthologies and HungerEdited by Alice Chapman and Caroline Tung Richmond, they are examples of this type of book. These may and should receive their own kind of recognition, but they do not fit in here. This index also does not include collections of short stories by one author. Holly Black and Kelly Link are two, among many others who have made their own collections of short stories. Similarly, the index does not include short stories published only online or in genre publications. They are much more difficult to track and are again worthy of their own compilation.

I have used my knowledge of YA to reduce the index here to the authors of YA, who are well known, widely published or new and emerging votes. Some have not yet published a YA title, while others haven’t done it for a long time; The authors of YA, who have so far published only in YA’s anthologies, are included if they have published several short stories. I pulled from this list YA short stories from adult authors who have written about anything else unless they edited the collection. This is to maintain the index limited to short stories by YA authors.

The short stories below are organized by the author’s surname. Each of the stories and their respective anthologies are listed under the author and in cases where the stories are co -authored, the story appears under the two names of the author. I have not included descriptions of the story because it is impossible without reading them all. But when you include the book where you can find the story, it must give a good idea of the topics that history can have. Perhaps this will encourage the ultimate goal of this project, which is to excite more people to read short stories. After all, the Printz 2024 Award – the highest honor given to a work of young adult literature – was first given to a collection of short stories, Collectors Edited by as king.

Some of these books may be out of print as they are over 10 years of age. But you are likely to trace them into a library and some authors may be re -displayed these stories on your websites or elsewhere, depending on whether they have the rights of the republicration or not.

Again, this is not exhaustive, but it is quite stable and, I hope, useful for readers looking for short stories from their favorite YA writers.
