Discover Linux Mint 22.2 and LMDE 7 Codenames

The Linux Mint team has just announced the official code names of its next two operating system omissions. The next version of Linux Mint based on Ubuntu will be called “Zara”, while the new Debian -based LMDE edition will go under the name “Gigi”.
Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara” will build UBUNTU 24.04 LTS recently released, bringing with you updated packages, a polished cinnamon desktop and the concentration known on usability. LMDE 7 “Gigi”, on the other hand, stands rooted in the Debian and gives users an alternative that completely passes the Ubuntu base.

This type of news naming may look small on the surface, but for long project fans, it is a sign that things are progressing behind the scenes. Mint has always followed an alphabetical designation scheme using the first names of women, and these latest elections remain true to that tradition.
There is no strong release date for each version yet, but the names usually come when the development is moved to the later stages. This means that we will probably begin to see the deeper beta Builds and Changelogs in the near future.
