If you look at the path of romance at a local bookstore or library, you may have noticed a tendency to quickly outstrip the genre: illustrated covers, especially in a cartoon, not very detailed style. There is nothing in its essence in this style. Some of my favorite romances have a cartoon and they can be done very well. On the other hand, sometimes designs are so simple that the cover looks common, with silhouettes with the unclear shape of a person instead of specific signs. Regardless of the quality of the illustration, they can begin to mix together and level the differences between styles, settings, tones and subgenters. Do you take a sweet, fluffy romance with closed doors or dramatic, heartbreaking, open -door romance? You probably won’t get many clues from the animation cover!
That is why task # 10 of the challenge of reading at 2025 is “Read a romantic book that has no illustrated cover.” It’s not that there is anything Wrongly With illustrated covers of romantic books, but since they are so ubiquitous at the moment, it is worth emphasizing the books that go against the trend and show magnificent, romantic, photographic covers. There is a true art for them that deserves to be recognized.
Of course, all covers have a design element, so I have included the covers that operate the photography, but are complemented by illustrated elements. You can also pick up a romantic book with typographic design. Honestly, I would still count it, even if you used a romantic cover involving a picture, because the point of this task is simply to draw attention to something other than the standard cartoon cover.
I tried to credit designers and photographers on the cover, but unfortunately this information is not always available.
Here are ten fantastic photographic romantic covers to get started. If you are looking for more, try going through the Harlequin catalog, which is almost entirely made up of photographic covers!

A love song for Ricky Wilde by Tia Williams
Tia Williams hit him big with seven days in June, which is an incredible book. I think I may love this even more! This is bizarre, imaginary and beautiful. Ricky is a chaotic queen who goes against her family’s wishes to move to Harlem and start a flower shop for her dreams. There she meets a mysterious man named Ezra and the way they are attracted to each other is just magical. As with Williams’ previous book, this book goes to some dark places. However, I did not find the book about Bumor as a whole. It is a rich study of lively characters and relationships with a leafy romance at the base. – Isabel pop
Cover design from Sarah Kongden. It covers a photo by Adrian McDonald.
