It’s time to check your shelf where we register with a new UK reading crisis study, take some new adaptation updates, and look at another controversial book that prohibits Florida’s bill. Let’s dive.
A new UK study finds a growing reading crisis in adults
It has recently been written a lot to reduce the percentage of reading and literacy in children, but what about adults? The publisher weekly A new survey of adults in the UK, which found that almost half of those surveyed by the study reported that they were fighting reading due to scattering (especially in the age group 16-34 years). There are many things that need to be pointed to the exhaustion of our ability to focus, as well as increasing the responsibilities and stressors for adults, but one thing that interests me is the role that the pandemic has played in the decreasing ability of adults to focus. I’m not talking about neurological effects tested by people with Long Covid. I’m talking about how psychological stress and trauma have affected our brain. My own reading capacity has decreased with age, but I can indicate the beginning of the pandemic blockage as a turning point that breaks my ability to focus, and I have not yet regained something close to my previous reading life. So to the people who responded to this study, I feel.
Literary defenders condemned a book in Florida who banned the bill
Florida has introduced another highly controversial act to ban the book and a coalition of “Literary Organizations, Groups for Advocacy to Fight Censorship and Stakeholders in Florida Education” are very strongly against the bill. This bill will require school districts to remove any book considered “harmful to minors” within five days of the challenge, whether the book has passed through an official review process. In addition, the bill contains a processed (and expanded) definition of what it really means “harmful to minors” and explicitly rejects “a review of the literary, artistic, political or scientific value of the book if sexual content is present.” The coalition, which includes groups such as authors against book bans, Pen America, Everylibrary and Florida Freedom to Reading Project, says this bill is a significant constitutional concern.

Guide for all cozy genres
Cozy has certainly become a fashion word attached to genre fiction. It all started with the cozy mysteries that have existed for decades. Now we see cozy science fiction and fantasy and even cozy horror. So what exactly does it mean “cozy”?
There are some common features of so -called cozy books. In general, they cause a charming atmosphere with their atmosphere. In the cozy mysteries, this is often a small town – think of a fancy village in the English province. Fantasy adds a little magic to this bizarre village; The horror adds ghosts. For science fiction, comfort is often manifested as a ship, space station or colony with a tightly woven crew. Readers can expect rich descriptions of the atmosphere and a very atmosphere for a fully transporting reading experience.
Another common factor in these books is the bets of history. Cozy mysteries are somewhat confusing because the crimes they solve are usually killings! Nevertheless, the reader is not subjected to details of forests or puts in a position of exceptional tension. Similarly, cozy fantasy and science fiction novels can cope with the consequences of a large-scale conflict, but the characters are likely to cope with smaller, more inner or interpersonal challenges.
