CLIO’S Jack Newton in VLEX ‘Convergence’ deal – artificial lawyer

CLIO has bought VLEX in a $ 1 billion cash and share deals. Artificial lawyer talks about Clio CEO Jack Newton about the movement. (More by Al Interview Tomorrow.)

Newton notes that he started Clio again in 2008 when there was ‘zero interest’ from investors in legal technology. Go ahead in July 2024 and Clio, which were focused on ‘business needs’ such as practice management, made an investment of $ 900 million. They had made a long way. But, as this new agreement shows, this is just the beginning of a whole new growth chapter for Clio.

In short, Clio went from solo work to middle-sized firms, to put himself in a position where he can-with the agreement with VLEX and his legal data and legal productivity skills begin to become a member of a re- three large.

Newton notes that he is more than happy that Clio ‘mentioned in the same spirit’ as Thomson Reuters and Lexisnexis.

So how did we get here? Al puts it in Newton that this was caused by all the latest moves by Lexis and Harvey and others performing for marketers. But he says he and Ed walters – Head of strategy in VLEX – had spoken of a possible combination for years.

In fact, it was the broadest view that he, and agentswould move the center stage that prompted this agreement together. And that position has evolved to Clio for some time, not only after Harvey and Lexis made an alliance.

“We are very excited to unite the business of the law and the practice of law (VLEX), just as things are evolving with him,” he says, and then adds that this “convergence” for which he is essential is where they want to be.

VLEX Agreement – with their expertise of it, their legal data and their legal productivity tools – and the impressive team – just made them all possible.

“This positions us for the next decade and beyond,” Newton adds.

Right, it’s about 35c here in the office, and as it is the United Kingdom and we have no air conditioning in London, I’m going to throw in Thames for a while to calm down.
