Google Maps gets a screen tool that facilitates travel planning on your iPhone

A few weeks ago, Google announced a number of new target features in digital travel planning, such as tracking hotel prices and setting it up as a personal guide. Among them was also a neat scam that could draw details of the address from the pictures and save them on Google Maps.
This feature has now begun to roll slowly. Users started getting it this week, it seems that earlier today, Google also released a blog update by guiding users on how to activate it. Right now, it is focused on iOS, but the object will soon sit on Android.
Why does it matter?
I often save Google search lists, social media advertising and blog posts for a particular place, restaurant, monument or items related to my travel plans as a photograph. It is the fastest way to save such information, especially for scenarios where you don’t have time to print them all as a note.
When eventually I return to them, I mainly use Google Lens to extract the text details from those photographs, and accordingly save them either in my planner notes, or on custom lists in the “you” section of Google Maps.
Now, thanks to the Gemini, the assistant I will automatically search for such information in the screen footage stored on your phone and add them to a dedicated list to the Google Maps app. “The places you save will appear on the map, and you can easily share the list with your travel friends,” Google said again in March.
The new feature is somewhat similar to Gemini file analysis skills. When opening a document, let’s say a PDF, in the Files app, you will see a twin chip on top that allows you to ask twins about the file content. It works quite well, in fact.
How to activate it?
In order for Gemini to scan the footage of your screen and automatically add them to a list dedicated to Google Maps, follow these steps:
1. Make sure you are executing the latest version of the Google Maps app on your iPhone.
2. Open Google Maps app and tap the “You” option in the bottom row.
3 On the next page, you will see a new list called Screenshots, with a “Try it!” symbol attached to it.
4 When you touch it, the app will show a short teaching video on how it works. At this point, you will need to give the app permit to access the media files stored in place on your iPhone.
5. The next time you get a screen view with information related to the address mentioned in it, it will be scanned in the background. When you open the Google Maps app, it will inform you that there are new location details ready for review.
6. Approve the addresses you want to save, and they will automatically be added to the list. Users will also be able to make a manual screen scan from inside the “You” tab in the app.
7. Saved addresses will appear on the “Screenshots” list and the appearance of the map.
