Today’s theme comes from the book Blogger Hop for the week of May 9-15. The topic is …

These are mine personal opinionsS I do not expect anyone to agree with anything here and I am actually sure that many will not agree and/or even hate many of the things I have written below. I’m sorry for this, but you are always welcome to express your own opinions – whether they are nasty or comparable – in the comment section. So, with that off the road … Let the dispute start!

What made me think about this topic?

This topic was suggested by Billy @ Coffee Addicted writer, who hosts the book Blogger Hop (and there are always some interesting topics on hand)!

My thoughts …

The short answer: Absolutely and completely!

To be specific: I know I’m old, but I don’t think I’m completely out of touch. I am pretty good with modern technology and I am involved in the news (probably too many, nowadays) and progress. Still, when I see some of these YA books, they make me feel even more adherent and when I come from another planet, not just born in the previous century. (I was born in 1957, so maybe I should say that I am “modern from the middle of the century” instead of an old? Hmm…)

Anyway, I also think today is not what it was when I was that age. Look, I don’t remember reading romantic or fantasy novels when I was that age. But when I look at the titles and the roof in the YA and Teen section of online stores, these are the bigger part of the books that seem to be there. I have also noticed a small amount of novels for science fiction and horrors there. But … Where are the books for literary fiction? You know, the novels for coming age, which are classics today, as a hunter in rye. How about mysterious novels or books with young amateur detectives like Nancy Drew? I know they are still there, but they don’t seem to dominate the shelves. In addition, the only historical fabrication I see are mostly fantasy and/or romance. Moreover, I see almost no biographical, historical fiction about this age group, which I think is really a pity.

Of course, when I was in this age group, there were quite a thin killed of books directly to the younger readers, so I feel that I went directly from children’s books to adult novels and most of them are classics.

So, maybe I don’t feel as old as I feel like books. I think this is because my taste in the books has developed more about genres that do not dominate the titles written for this age group. Damn, now that I’m 60, I find that I enjoy more novels “Golden Years” because I can identify with the main characters in my own age group. I suppose the reason is more of these books on the market these days is because of the increased demand for them by American burs. So, while I know many more old readers like YA books, I’m afraid I’m not one of them. And if that makes me old or out of contact, so be it!

Does that make sense?

Here it is!

Do you ever watch YA books and feel old or out of touch?

This post is mine 1 Book blogger Hop record for 2025 and mine 5th Entering the challenge of discussing in 2025, hosting Nicole @ Feed your artistic addiction and shannon @ he starts at midnight!
