This is a very deep and dark family drama. Sometimes the best books are for non -functional families. Not every family is a perfect picture. And most people do not want to read about people who live in Happyland. But this family also exceeds beyond the dysfunctional.
For starters, the assumption is interesting, so I chose to read this. The plot focuses about 2 sisters. The younger takes off in his teenage years and has not been heard for many years. After living a hippie lifestyle, she returned to her sister with several children. But from there it goes down. And, it becomes quite disturbing.
It was the writing style that turned me off. There is no depth to it. Each chapter looks like an outline to make the finished product later. Almost “point form”. And every chapter seems to jump forward a year or more. The characters seem to be shells, soulless.
I see that the book is approved by several of my favorite authors. And the greater part of the examinations are favorable. But this book is not for me. Not every book is for every reader.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the copy of Advance Chees.
