Denver (KDVR) Sunday, flags across the United States are flying in half staff to tribute to some of the boldest citizens of the country who have placed their lives in line to protect their American friends.
This is in accordance with the weekend of commemoration of national Fallen firefighters, which includes a ceremony in Emmitsburg, Maryland. This event honors both volunteer and professional firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty over the past years.
President Donald Trump stated in a proclamation on May 1, “everyday throughout our nation, brave men and women display acts of heroism, willing to put themselves in danger of others. We owe a debt to any American who chooses this honorable career – this solemn vocation – despite the inherited danger.”
The proclamation notes the heroic efforts of firefighters in and after September 11, 2001, as well as destructive and deadly fires in southern California earlier this year. Trump also talked about a firefighter about which he said “will forever hold a deep place in my life.”
“Corey Comperators, who lost his life by protecting his family from the burden of Assassin’s bullets who pierced the air during my last July rally on Butler, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote in his proclamation. “His bravery and selflessness on that fateful day illustrate the dedication and courage to determine the framework of America’s firefighters.”

Trump ordered all American flags to fly to half staff in all Federal Office buildings on May 3 and 4. Governors across the country, including Colorado Governor Jared Polis, have also ordered flags to fly to half staff, from sunrise to sunset, extending with Trump’s proclamation.
“This is a time to reflect and remember them and their families who have made the final sacrifice to protect our communities in the face of destructive events. In Colorado, we appreciate the hard work and dedication of our firefighters to ensure that communities are prepared, protected and informed during emergencies. said polis in.
The flags were previously flew in half staff for about a week in April due to the death of Pope Francis.
