Waymo casts grounds for Robotaxi Revolution

In recent years, Waymo has been turning towards his long goal to revolutionize urban transport by establishing a fully autonomous, escalating and sustainable service of traveling.
The alphabet -owned company has just taken another step in that direction with the opening of a new Metro Phoenix Metro Factory, Arizona, in partnership with Magna automaker.
The new 239,000-square-foot page will build thousands of I-Pace Jaguar equipped with fully autonomous Waymo technology, Waymo said in a post on its website on Monday.
The company said there are now more than 1,500 autonomous vehicles operating throughout San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Austin, providing more than 250,000 trips paid to users. Waymo also plans to start his service in Atlanta, Miami and Washington, DC next year.
These new cities are likely to receive many of the more than 2,000 fully autonomous I-Pace vehicles coming from the production line in 2026.
“We are proud to bring this technology – it is once thought to be the object of scientific fiction – for increasingly knights throughout this country,” Waymo said.
The boss of the Sundar Pichai alphabet recently suggested that he was thinking of offering her autonomous personal ownership vehicles, and also discussing the idea with Toyota, though with still high driverless regulatory barriers, such a scenario is likely to be a way out.
Waymo seems to be performing well in what is a very competitive sector. A number of rivals-Cruise General Motors owned by Motors and Argo backed by VW among them have found the attempt to build technology and services connected far, forcing their closures in 2024 and 2022, respectively.
But it has not been all the quiet navigation for Waymo, nor with various technology -related incidents on public roads causing increased control by regulators.
While many studies have suggested that Waymo’s autonomous vehicles are safer than human drivers, recent research by Professor Missy Cummings, Director of George Mason University Autonomy and Robotics, found that while Waymo performs better than the human Ridshare Drivers, his degree of average man – is still worse than 100 million.
However, Cummings emphasized that comparing autonomous vehicle safety with human drivers is scientifically problematic because people collectively drive trillions of miles a year, while driverless cars have recorded only tens of millions, making current comparisons statistically invalid.
Autonomous car technology has made stunning improvements in recent years, but its limited ability to handle all kinds of traffic scenarios and weather conditions means that it is likely to be some time before regulators give companies as wider operational Waymo.
