Mitsubishi is officially thrown back to the US electric vehicle scene – and this time, it’s not just diving a finger. The company confirmed that it will launch a whole new Battery SUV in North America starting in summer 2026, marking its first fully electric model here, as the strange I-Miev left the scene in 2017.
The new EV will be a compact intersection, and while Mitsubishi is holding most of the liquid details under the conclusions, we know that it will be based on the same generation platform as Nissan Leaf. This means that it will board the cmf-EV architecture-the same thing that supports Nissan Ariya-e which supports the range up to 300+ miles. So, yes, this will not be your average EV of the entry level.
Designed in partnership with Nissan, the new model will be built in Japan and sent to the US coast. No word about prices, battery size, or even a name, but Mitsubishi has made it clear that this is just the beginning. As part of its “Momentum 2030” plan, the company promises a new or updated vehicle every year by the end of the decade, with four electric models rolling by 2028. And yes, one of them can even be an intake.
Mitsubishi says the goal is to give customers “flexible electricity options”, which is marketing to talk about: “We will have something for all.” So whether you are all in electric or still in gas or hybrid energy, they are aiming to cover you.
This mystery will eventually sit along with the current Mitsubishi lineup in the US-Outlander, Outlander Phev, Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sports and help the brand move beyond its current radar status in the electric world.
In short: Mitsubishi is finally getting serious for EV, and if this new SUV lives up to its potential, it can simply turn the brand back into your radar.
