Microsoft Demos Agent Agent Builder Contract + Fine Tuning – Artificial Lawyer

The Microsoft technology giant has demonstrated what it is calling a contract builder and also showed (very brief) how it can be well adjusted. At first glance it seems to be a threat to legal technology tools, but they come deeper and suspicion.

As part of the Microsoft Build 2025 event yesterday, the company showed how you can create numerous agents to perform tasks, and even how those agents can work together. They set the example of making a compliance check in an RFP, then moved to writing a contract using an agent.

See the steps below (and also the video – start from about 4 minutes inside.)

Video Microsoft, via YouTube. The contractor is after 4 minutes.

Its essential basic is this:

  • You determine what the agent will do.
  • You explain her tasks, e.g. ‘Include sections such as obligations’.
  • You determine the request to lead the agent.

But perhaps the main point had to do with the agent’s good training and arrangement. This is something that came to the mind of Al when agents first arrived – as the user effectively turns into the methods of teaching the old school machine to make the agent accurate in his work. Ie this is not about encouraging but once again Literally training the software (In this case the agent) to do the right thing, in the right way through the contribution of a human expert. In short, it is similar to what we previously did with NLP / ml, or at least in that ballpark.

And this is one of the irony of agents-they have to be trained as if they were the 2016 style technology …!

The demonstration presenter said you can also access the model contracts from SharePoint and then bring the subject experts (also known as lawyers….) To refine the results. This part was overlooked in about 3 seconds, but it is vital.

What quality are these comparative contracts and he found the respective ones? Do they match the result you want? WHO Do the training with the agent to refine its results? How long does it take? How many steps do you spend to complete this training? Does this mean that it is then completely correct?

In short, it seems great if you just hear the demonstration but It leaves many unanswered questions and glosses on some really main issues. It is also felt that once again some technology people are acting as if a contract is only any other part of the text, such as an email for a client, rather than considering that a contract must be 1) super accurate and 2) really reflect the needs of the parties involved.

And, in the second point, it does not mention negotiations, redemption back and forth and so on that contracts inevitably create.

In general, this is very interesting and shows that ‘Microsoft does legal technology’ now … but this will not bother most of the legal technology companies … .. not yet.

However, long-term, what shows that legal technology will not be immune to Microsoft-Software’s direct interventions with which 99% of lawyers live daily.

The big question is: How far does Microsoft want to go here to making applications such as a contract building agent really, really good, compared to just making a great demonstration and then leaving the legal world to understand how to make it work? Will this remain a quick example to show what is possible, or will the company actually begin to make this ability a special feature?
