I have never read this author before, but I have read good things about this through reviews, so I decided that it would be a good way to start and I’m glad I did it. It was the female fiction at the best case. It was a beautifully written story for a woman named Arden and it is held in two terms. I love a good dual timeline story. This one returned us to 1977, when our main character was a teacher and went to Europe with his friend Robert. At first, I didn’t like Arden, as I found that it was selfish and self -serving. Can it be redeemed, mistakes and everything else?

The second time line was in 2013, when Arden was about to celebrate sixty, she decided to do so with her daughter’s family, but the tragedy strikes and Arden was left to take care of her 10-year-old granddaughter. Arden blames herself for the tragedy and believes that this may be the consequences or punishment for her previous behavior, so this is when she begins to think what and whom she has done.

It was such an interesting and provocative thought, a multi-generation tale that deals with the mother-daughter relationship, healing and forgiveness of yourself. And although I didn’t like Arden at the beginning, the development of the characters compensates for him in the peak. The author writes emotions and family dynamics in a very touching way.
